Guitar Lessons

Acoustic Guitar
Learn the basics of the guitar in this six week session.  Each week will focus on something different.  Students must have their own guitar.
Week One: Introduction to the guitar.
Week Two: Review the six strings and hear the students homework and then DIVE into beginning to play some music! 
Week Three: A diagram will be provided to the student showing them how to play a scale. 
Week Four: Work on performing a full song.
Week Five: Review the melody of the song chosen the prior week.
Week Six: A fun song will be provided to the student for them to take home and practice.  By this time the student will have the tools to read sheet music and make it into music! 

Christopher McClure is currently a Sophomore at Anna Maria College studying Elementary Education.  He spent his first year of college studying Music Education, and has taken a course focusing on gaining the tools to teach beginner guitar players.  Christopher participates in a guitar ensemble on campus, and is taking advanced lessons with a professional guitar teacher in the fall.  He has ample knowledge in music theory, and can help your child not only get a grasp on beginner guitar skills, but can also help lay a foundation of music reading skills that can carry your young musician beyond simply learning songs to play.

General Information
  • Instructor: Christopher McClure
  • Classes are on Friday - July 17, 2020 and can be scheduled for anytime between 9:00 a.m - 4:00 p.m.
  • Two options to register: 30 minutes or 40 minutes
  • Class times run on a first come first serve basis.
  • After registering, email recreationdirector@thompsonct.org to set up a time slot for your private lesson.
  • No refunds for missed days
